Describe your company's current technology and solutions
SecureKey is a leading identity and authentication provider that simplifies consumer access to online services and applications. SecureKey's next generation privacy-enhancing services enable consumers to conveniently and privately assert identity information using trusted providers, such as banks, telcos and governments, helping them connect to critical online services with a digital credential they already have and trust, while ensuring that information is only ever shared with explicit user consent.

The privacy-enhancing SecureKey Concierge Service™ is a next generation authentication network for conveniently connecting people to critical online services using their secure banking credentials they already have and trust. SecureKey Concierge is configured to be Triple Blind®, ensuring that no party receives sensitive or personal information from other parties.

Verifying your identity can be an inconvenient task. Waiting in long lineups to show several pieces of ID and answering multiple security questions are just a few of the hassles that come with verifying your identity to get access to online services and products. It's the same story for many Canadians, yet the solution has always been out of reach

Are you aware of any current government challenges or opportunities that would be addressed by using your technology solution? Or a future need you can identify?
Verified.Me, by SecureKey Technologies Inc., aligns well with the government’s goal of supporting the greater use of data in a safe and secure way. Verified.Me is the result of effective collaboration between cross-industry players and helps achieve each of the Digital Charter’s 10 Principles as follows:
Universal Access: Canadians should have access to the services that make their lives easier when they want them, no matter where they are. Verified.Me allows Canadians the choice to assert what they have, who they are and what they know in order to confidently help verify themselves with services they want. At the same time, Verified.Me allows citizens control over their data for sharing between parties like credit agencies, telcos, financial institutions and government, providing greater access to services, streamlining processes and saving millions in costs.
Safety and Security: Verified.Me was built with strong security protocols and developed under the guidelines of Global Privacy and Security by
Design. A first-of-its-kind network, Verified.Me is built on blockchain to protect personal information from being identified, accessed or misused. The combination of financial institution and telecommunication grade credential login and document validation makes Verified.Me more secure and safe for all consumers.
Control and Consent: Verified.Me is entirely driven by user consent; at every step in the verification process, citizens are asked for their explicit
consent, which is immutably recorded, and remains at the centre of every transaction. Verified.Me gives control of personal information back to citizens, and allows them to understand and confirm when, why and how their personal information is being used.
Transparency, Portability and Interoperability: Digital ID isn’t just a single industry or uniquely Canadian problem; the issues associated with digital ID span the globe and touch every organization. Building networks that acknowledge the problem

As the COVID crisis continues, please describe specific opportunities where your technology might support Canadian needs / government needs
At no other time in recent memory have governments stood up to provide emergency benefits and stimulus packages to so many people in such a short period of time. Benefits. Loans. Wage subsidies. What does access to these programs have in common? Identity.

In the fight against COVID-19’s urgency and scope, blockchain-based digital identity verification networks like Verified.Me are essential tools. As Canadians, now working remotely, are getting used to tools such as Zoom, we’re also seeing huge spikes in calls and online requests for telehealth or governmental benefit programs. Recently Service Canada announced that they were closing their physical locations and, under the new Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB), the federal government anticipates that over four million Canadians will apply for capital relief. With the over one million small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) that drive the Canadian economy, the federal government’s 75 per cent wage subsidy commitment will also result in a heavy influx to government call centres and online services in lieu of physical engagement. Even more staggering than the figures is the reality that each of these individuals and business owners need to have their identities verified immediately.

This is a massive responsibility, and our governments need support from privacy and security-centric parties with the right expertise. The ink wasn’t even dry on the government’s stimulus program before reports of a text scam began circulating. We’ve all heard the stories of local restaurants having to make the heart-breaking decision of having to close their doors permanently or layoff their staff. Having the tools deployed to provide secure digital identity verification isn’t just a question of convenience during COVID-19

Do you have any final reflections or comments?
While governments, along with every individual, are making a huge financial effort to mitigate the economic downturn, we believe digital identity verification technology can both save much needed time and money while funneling resources elsewhere. At SecureKey, we’re here to help with Verified.Me. Verified.Me is a service offered by SecureKey Technologies Inc. Our network was developed in cooperation with seven of Canada’s major financial institutions
