Describe your company's current technology and solutions
Empower Health (empower.ca / iamsick.ca) was created in 2012 after hearing stories of many Canadians who had difficult finding family doctors who were accepting new patients, and those who had difficulty navigating the healthcare system because existing online directories of healthcare services were often incorrect or out-of-date.

Empower Health has launched a number of initiatives over the years (iamsick.ca in 2012, myhealth365.ca in 2015, holidayhours.ca in 2016, myflushot.ca in 2019, and both c19.ca & ltc-covid19-tracker.ca in Spring 2020). All of these initiatives have a core focus of improving access to healthcare services by empowering patients and healthcare professionals.

Our IT infrastructure includes national healthcare directory data maintenance of all healthcare facilities/services/professionals, websites/apps that support patient navigation, seamless online appointment booking that integrates with primary care EMRs and pharmacy software, as well as APIs that power a number of digital health initiatives.

Our national directories include all COVID19 assessment centres, hospitals, medical clinics, medical labs, pharmacies, walk-in clinics, and dozens of other types of healthcare facilities.

Are you aware of any current government challenges or opportunities that would be addressed by using your technology solution? Or a future need you can identify?
Yes, challenges/opportunities related to real-time navigation of the healthcare system (allowing the public to know what healthcare services are open and available across Canada), access to reliable and up-to-date information about COVID19 cases and deaths (supporting better coordination and planning with timely and actionable information), access and planning related to limited resources (PPE, healthcare workers, testing). We are also supporting contact tracing through a partnership with the University of Toronto MyTrace app.

As the COVID crisis continues, please describe specific opportunities where your technology might support Canadian needs / government needs
Our digital health platform supports the shifting needs of a healthcare system during and post-pandemic. This includes real-time patient navigation of healthcare services, as well as efficient referrals, access & resource-coordination of healthcare services post-pandemic (medical imaging, surgeries, testing, immunizations, etc).

Do you have any final reflections or comments?
We're here to support the healthcare system through collaborations with healthcare organizations, healthcare professionals, the public, and other technology companies.
Together, we can get through this, save lives, and support a more robust healthcare system.
